Sam Upton, poet and spoken word artist, created ʻYoung Veteransʼ and the poetry that links the tracks.
Sam has been writing and performing his poems as spoken word pieces since February 2014 in Milton Keynes, Northampton, Newport Pagnell, Stony Stratford and London and regularly performs at open-mic nights such as Vaultage, Scribal Gathering, Poet Tree Alliance, as well as competing in the Bardic trials of Northampton and Stony Stratford. His poems explore themes of life, love, loss and longing, using traditional techniques and modern forms. He delivers unique and emotionally charged performances to share insights into his own life and past and to the world around us. He says: "'Young Veterans' draws inspiration from classic war literature as well as interactions with friends who became soldiers. I used the Living Archive's extensive collection of letters sent to and from the Front, and the other artists work to create the poetic narrative to link the pieces together."
